Blog Series: Answers Every New Writer Needs
Article #10
What If I Fail?
Why Your Words Are Worth the Risk
Every writer – no matter how experienced – has faced that lingering, paralyzing question:
What if this doesn’t work?
What if I fail?
What if no one reads it?
What if I’m not good enough?
Whether you’re sitting with a fresh idea or a finished manuscript, the fear of failure can sneak in and steal your momentum. And while the fear is real, so is this truth:
Your words are worth the risk.
Let’s talk about why.
Fear Shows Up When You’re Doing Something That Matters
You wouldn’t feel nervous if your story didn’t matter to you. You wouldn’t question yourself if this dream wasn’t close to your heart.
So, if you’re feeling the weight of “what if,” that’s not failure. That’s evidence of courage.
When we step out to write – to tell the truth, to share something vulnerable, to put our faith or insight or story on the page – we’re doing something risky. But it’s also deeply meaningful. And you don’t have to do it perfectly to make an impact.
Your Words Might Be the Answer to Someone Else’s Prayer
We tend to judge our writing by how polished it is. But readers? They’re looking for connection, encouragement, insight, and truth.
Your words might be what someone else needs in their lowest moment. They might spark healing, laughter, or courage in someone else’s life.
You won’t always see the fruit right away. But it’s still growing.
On the Days You Doubt, Be Gentle with Yourself
Everyone hits walls. Everyone feels resistance. That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re human.
So what can you do on those doubting days?
- Pause, pray, and reflect
- Remind yourself why you started
- Return to your notes, your “why,” or that one encouraging message
- Reach out to someone who gets it
And keep going – even slowly.
