by Jenise Greene, LPC, RPT, NCC, CAMS

Even the bravest hearts get butterflies sometimes. Help your child feel brave, calm, and confident with this gentle first-day-of-school story filled with simple coping skills and mindful breathing techniques.

A Magical Day with Gracie follows a young girl who feels nervous about her first day at Butterfly Elementary. Her tummy is full of butterflies as she worries about riding the school bus, meeting new friends, and finding her way through the big, busy school.

Everything changes when she meets Luna, a sparkly, kind butterfly who teaches her Butterfly Breaths, happy thoughts, and other kid-friendly coping skills that help calm her worries. Through Luna’s guidance, Gracie discovers that being brave doesn’t mean never feeling scared – it means taking a breath, believing in yourself, and trying again.

Written by Licensed Professional Counselor Jenise Greene, this beautifully illustrated children’s book supports emotional regulation, confidence-building, and mindfulness for kids ages 4–7. Perfect for easing first-day-of-school anxiety, introducing breathing exercises for children, and supporting social emotional learning (SEL) at home, in classrooms, or in counseling sessions.

Whether your child is preparing for a new school year or navigating big feelings, A Magical Day with Gracie is a heartwarming reminder that every child has the power to feel brave and calm – one Butterfly Breath at a time.
