When You Want to Quit
Staying Faithful When Progress Feels Slow
There’s a moment in every writing journey when quitting feels easier than continuing.
You’ve been working hard. You’ve shown up. You’ve waited.
But the results feel… small. The progress feels slow. And you’re starting to wonder:
- “Is this really worth it?”
- “Did I miss something?”
- “Maybe I’m not cut out for this.”
If that’s where you are, take a breath. Let’s talk about what faithfulness really looks like in the waiting and how to stay the course even when growth is quiet.
Small Doesn’t Mean Stuck
You might be making more progress than you think. Writing, publishing, and platform-building all take time. Sometimes, God is growing something beneath the surface – something deep, durable, and meant to last. The slow seasons are not signs of failure. They’re invitations to trust.
Redefine Success (Again)
Our culture celebrates speed, spotlight, and stats. But success in your writing journey might look like:
- One reader saying, “This helped me.”
- One small breakthrough on the page.
- One quiet step of obedience.
Don’t measure a calling by how many people clap. Measure it by your willingness to keep showing up, when no one else sees but God.
Gentle Steps to Keep Going
If you’re ready to give up, try this first:
- Take a 3-day break and pray.
- Revisit your “why.”
- Talk to a writing friend who reminds you of the bigger picture.
- Do one small thing – write a paragraph, update your bio, reread old encouragement.
Movement doesn’t have to be massive. It just needs to be forward.
You’re Allowed to Pivot
Staying faithful doesn’t mean you can’t change your approach.
Maybe the story needs reshaping.
Maybe your audience is shifting.
Maybe your timeline needs to expand.
That’s not failure. That’s growth.
You don’t have to feel on fire to be faithful. You just have to keep going. The words are still in you. And they’re still needed.
